Monstrous Marlin, Super Sailfish, And Other Awesome Fishing From Costa RicaYou should know that FishingNosara is clearly the best choice for Fishing Costa Rica. Check out the Fishing Techniques we have perfected at FishingNosara and to see photos of all these awesome fish. Here are the great catches you can read about in FishingNosara’s Costa Rica Fishing Report: January 2010 Captain Vibert had client Michael Zito on board for a half-day fishing on January 12th. The Master Captain negotiated very strong offshore winds and showed the consistency that has made him a local legend. Despite the weather, Captain Vibert still delivered for his clients: Two 30lbs. Dorados and a nice 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna. January 10th brought Don Dingman, host of TV’s Hook the Future, on board the Wanderer to film an episode. Hook the Future is a show dedicated to teaching youngsters the finer points of fishing, and Don found some lucky kids from the Nosara area to take part. On the Wanderer they caught and released three Sailfish ranging from 80lbs. on up to 110lbs. They also caught five Dorados weighing 40lbs.-60lbs. The next day he fishing along the Nosara river and filmed another episode. February 2010 Longtime friend and client Scott D’Arrigo joined Craig Sutton and the crew of theWanderer for a very memorable day of fishing on January 30th. With Craig in command of the cockpit and Scotty on the reel they pulled in this massive Sailfish…Craig brought the big fella into the boat himself, a first time for him with a Pacific Sailfish. On January 25th, 26th, and 27th theWanderer was honored to welcome Captain Kevin Faver, his wife Carrie, and the crew of The Outdoors Show for a few days of fishing and filming. Kevin and Carrie repeated last year’s success by catching four Dorados and releasing seven Sailfish. Also Kevin released one of the nicest Rooster Fish of the year so far. Most recently, the Wanderer was graced by Dennis Rosa and his son Sam for two full days of fishing on the 12th and 14th of February. On the first day they caught two 25lbs. Dorados and a 120lbs. Sailfish. Then they raised ten Sailfish on the second day and ended up successfully capturing and releasing four of them. Sam showed excellent skills on the reel and was centrally involved in all the Sailfish strikes. He had a great trip with his dad to our little slice of paradise, where they explored the surrounding areas on foot, on the water, and even from the treetops on one of our nearby jungle zip-lines. FishingNosara and Nosara Paradise Rentals are proud to be family-friendly doorways for kids of all ages to enjoy the Pura Vida spirit of Costa Rica. March 2010 The Nice n’ Tight did track down some Black Tunas for clients Carl and John on March 3rd and 6th respectively. The Bite turned on in a big way on March 7th for client John Mysak. He fished five straight days with Captain Eduardo on the Nice n’ Tight and it seems clear that the fish still don’t know what hit ‘em. The best day was the first with a 100+lbs. Sailfish release, a nice White Tuna and a tasty Yellowfin…and that was before lunch! Once they got out to the deep water in the early afternoon the spread was attacked by a 200+lbs. Blue Marlin! Mr. Mysak fought him all the way, never gave up, and set-up the crew to successfully live release the big blue monster. Perfect teamwork, perfect fish. John followed up with another strong performance on March 8th catching a nice Amberjack, a 40lbs. Wahoo, and releasing another glorious 100+lbs. Sailfish. Over his final three days he also put a 45lbs. Dorado in the fishbox and lost a few 50lbs. Yellowfin Tunas. Captain Eduardo and the crew did and excellent job of keeping the client on fish and live releasing all the great billfish catches. On March 7th, 8th, and 9th client Jonathan Fanning and his group were on the Wanderer for some very active trips. First they had a nice Sailfish catch and release, then on the second day they caught a pair of Yellowfin tunas and a decent White tuna. All in all they had some fun trips. April 2010 In late March Captain Eduardo took the Sailfish to school, raising fourteen of them and getting four all the way to the boat for the release. Watch out fish! Eduardo’s in town. April 7th brought a massive catch for client Tom who fished on board the Nice n’ Tight and released a nice Sailfish in the 80lbs. range. Captain Eduardo then hunted the reefs for some Yellowfin tuna, and Tom was burying the hooks and bending rods to the tune of twenty-five fish! Captain Eduardo made certain that Tom had a great day! Recently client David Laudon had an incredible half-day trip. In a short time they had boated 10 triggerfish and a nice jack. Captain Vibert knows these inshore reef like none other and is always ready to bring in this kind of solid action! On March 26th Manuel (Concierge Numero Uno at Nosara Paradise Rentals) and I released a Black marlin, one Sailfish and lost a nice dorado. The marlin was going absolutely crazy, moving from one teaser to the other one and spanking it with his bill. One of the teasers broke clean off of the line. I spent 42 minutes to release this fish, albeit with a few water breaks. This marked the beginning of some great billfish action on the Wanderer in March and April. May 2010 The Nice n’ Tight stole the spotlight on April 22nd when client William was on board and on the reel for a fantastic 110lbs Sailfish release. As always the crew and Captain Eduardo made it a short fight and the billfish was subdued with precision and released with no harm. Great work by angler, boat and crew! April 23rd brought client Catherine Shaller on the Nice n’ Tight for a half day of fishing and snorkeling. She caught two nice dorados over 15lbs and took in some super underwater vistas of our coral reefs. On April 26th clients Dwayne and Katrina fishing for a half-day on the reefs. They applied our FishingNosara Cuberra Tactic and caught a beautiful 30lbs. Cuberra snapper. They rounded out their day with four sweet whites tunas. The next day client David Caywood went hunting for the big boys. Unfortunately they didn’t get so big by being easily caught and despite raising up a Sail and a big-time Marlin they couldn’t get ‘em hooked up and to the boat. Client Daniel Fero also had an action packed day on May 4th, albeit with limited results. He got some dinner in the form of a big Yellowfin tuna, but lost a pair a Cadillac-sized snappers on the bottom. Likewise for client Bobby Leesman on May 10th, who fished a full day on came away with a 30lbs. Yellowfin tuna. He also has action throughout the day, but the fish were tough to catch. June 2010 One of our favorite clients Ivan de Luca and his son Tomas were on the Cabo for several fun filled days, catching nearly one of every species in the ocean. Unfortunately the biggest Marlin they had hooked up broke the leader right at the boat, but that’s how it goes when fighting the mightiest fish in the sea. From the inshore reefs to offshore trolling, Captain Vibert knows how to get the job done. The highlight of Captain Eduardo’s month came on May 18th client Michael Coleman and his wife caught a released a HUGE Blue Marlin. It was the first lifetime Marlin catch for both of these clients; once again FishingNosara delivers the fish of a lifetime via the hardest-working man in Garza: Captain Eduardo Carillo. Jacksonville angler Dennis Dahlquist also had a 300+lbs Marlin release on a late-May trip on the Wanderer; As usual Captain William was on top of his game. I was joined by fellow Jacksonville angler Ray Carter and the lovely Georgia peach Paula Price for a great trip on theWanderer on May 30th. The weather was just about as perfect as could be imagined and the party had a fantastic array of catches. In total we caught a mean little 20lbs. Wahoo, a 30lbs. Amberjack, a 35lbs. Cuberra snapper and two 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna. The highlight of the trip was a pair of 100+lbs. Sailfish releases. Paula showed her skills on the reel as both fights were under ten minutes and both fish were released. Recently Renee Taylor and family booked the Wanderer on June 16th and had a magnificent day. They released a 250lbs. Striped Marlin and a 120lbs. Sailfish and a nice Yellowfin tuna to the mix…call this a perfect end to a great month of fishing.
